Day 28

Fun but crazy weekend, with waaay too many calories on Superbowl Sunday!! I know it wasnt good for me either as I've felt kinda sick and nauseous all morning, my body is like 'WTF? What WAS all of that about?!' lol...

Breakfast:
150 calorie Wallaby Vanilla Yogurt- YUMMMY + coffee

Lunch:
380 calorie Amy's burrito....left my wallet at home so I had to have what I'd stashed in the work fridge!

Dinner:
200 calorie Amy's lentil soup with fresh corriander in it, and a deli flat on the side with hummus = 350 calories + a glass of white wine 120 calories

Total for the day: 1000 (good, I wanted to go a bit lighter today) :D

Day 26 and 27

Day 26 (Saturday)
I was pretty proud of myself as I woke up and worked out! :D

Workout

I did Day 8 of Jillian's 30 Day Shred- its becoming a wee bit easier, I can actually stay up in the plank and do the jumps in the plank position she demands- craaazy cardio!!

Breakfast/Lunch
2 whole wheat deli thins with organic peanut butter and jam + coffee = about 500 calories

Dinner
490 calories of whole wheat spaghetti/mushrooms/spinach/half a cup of sauce and paremsan cheese

Day 27 (Superbowl Sunday)

I was doing well all day, but superbowl festivities threw me off!! I went to a friend's house for a vegetarian BBQ, and had two amazing veggie skewers, plus lots of burgers etc, so I'm not evening going to try to count this day!! Im just going to work out and eat right tomorrow!

Day 25

FRIDAY !!!

New gym opening tomorrow, and a chance to actually cook/work out/eat right without being rushed along by the work week!! There is nothing nicer than having a slow breakfast outside in the sunshine....having another cup of coffee and savoring every morsel rather than my usual run out the door with something in hand or scoffed down ASAP!

Here is a photo of a breakfast I made during the summer when we could eat out in the garden - whole wheat raspberry waffles, natural syrup+condensed milk + fresh raspberrys on top= AMAZING

Breakfast:

Another greek yogurt/blueberry smoothie minus the banana as I was out! Just blended yogurt/blueberries/vanilla essence and a whole wheat sandwhich thin with a lil organic jam + coffee =
400 calories

Lunch:
Went out for lunch with my man, had a 'burrito salad', but didnt eat the burrito, just the filling and that filled me right up without that overly full feeling (honestly, I was tempted to eat the burrioto but it smelt kinda fishy I think they cooked it on a hot plate used for fish tacos, so NOT eating it became that much easier!! Eww...dead fish!!)

Dinner:
Not sure yet, will update this later :)

Day 24

/hihi
Well, no weight loss these past two days....not sure if its because of the food I'm eating, the fact that I havent had time to work out or walk much on the job because of rain, or because I had diet soda these past two days?

I found this article on http://www.thirdage.com/today/nutrition/does-diet-soda-make-you-fat
Not sure what to think...but I am going to try avoid them today and drink coffee and tea instead if I start to get tired mid-afternoon!

----- The Article:
Last weekend, a girlfriend that I’ve known since college was visiting. As we left the airport, we had to stop at the grocery for a case of diet soda. My friend drinks five or so cans a day. On our way to lunch now happy with her diet soda in hand my friend asked me “Do you think that drinking diet soda makes you fat?”
“Depends on whom you ask,” I said. Last year, researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio reported that adults who drink diet soda (we’re talking only one can or bottle a day) did not lose weight. They were actually more likely to become overweight than those adults who did not drink soda at all OR those that drink regular soda. In fact, the more diet soda consumed, the more likely someone would become overweight. To be specific, there was a 41% increase in the risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soda consumed daily.
In this study, researcher Sharon Fowler followed over 600 normal weight adults ages 25-64 over a seven to eight year period of time. She has a number of theories as to why weight gain may be a result of drinking a zero-calorie beverage:
1. Artificial sweeteners may affect your body’s ability to judge how many calories you consume because you are getting something sweet without any calories. When no calories are consumed, the body may continue to crave what it expected and could lead to overeating or bingeing.
2. Some people give up regular sodas to justify their favorite dessert and still take in too many calories. A regular soda contains about 9-12 teaspoons of sugar (yes, you read that correctly) and about 150 calories while your dessert may be double that in calories easily.
3. For others who were gaining weight already, switching to diet soda wasn’t enough to stop the gain. You’ve heard this one before…you’re being good and order a diet soda along with your fast food burger and French fries but the calories are still quite high.
Since her first piece of research, Fowler has tracked another 2000 people with similar results. Do the faux sweet products induce people to want more sweets? Fowler suggests that perhaps it’s not the soft drinks themselves that cause weight gain but that there is some link between diet soda drinking and overweight/obesity.
I’ll be watching the research for more news on this debated topic. In the mean time, do any of you feel that drinking diet sodas makes you crave more sweets? What about using sugar substitutes? Just curious.

I found this too:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/01/04/earlyshow/contributors/emilysenay/main2330142.shtml
and this:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2779084/does_diet_soda_make_you_gain_weight.html?cat=5
"According to ABC's Good Morning America, a Purdue University study found that rats which were fed the artificial sweetener, saccharin, were actually more likely to gain weight than rats which were fed sugar. The reason artificial sweeteners are thought to lead to weight gain is because they may slow down your metabolism. Thus, by drinking diet soda, you may be making it harder for yourself to lose weight than if you were to drink sugary drinks like regular soda or fruit juices."

Slowing down metabolism makes sense to me.....I have a vitamin that is supposed to boost it (which Ive forgotten to take these past few days too lol!)

Anyway, back to business:

Breakfast:

1 pack of Nature's path Flax oatmeal= 210 calories+ some craisins=+ 10 more calories, + milk in unsweetened coffee = 100 calories of 2% milk

Lunch:

A local vegetarian organization does lunches here on campus for only $4 a plate with unlimited refills, so I decided to do that for a change (the thought of my Amy's meal in the freezer was just unappealing!) I had  Mixed Veggies and Tofu in a Sour Cream Sauce, Indonesian Coconut Rice, Blueberry Cheesecake and Karma Free Tea. I'd estimate the plate to be about 500-600 calories, they dont give very big servings at all.

Dinner:

I got a ton of blueberries the other day, so I blended a cup of them + a frozen banana + 1 cup of yogurt into a delicious purple smoothie for dinner!

Recipe:
Ingredients
1 cup of plain, low fat yogurt (or vanilla if you wish, but it contains a lot of sugar)
1 to 1 ½ cups frozen berries, any kind you wish
1 banana
1 teaspoon vanilla essences
A dash of grape or banana vodka

Then- BLEND :) Drink immediatley (if it sits too long it can get funky)

Snack:

Two chips, and a small piece of veggie protein after my work out!

Workout:

YAY! I did it!!! Day 7 of Jillian's 30 Day Shred, and I did it on Level Two, which was so much more challenging than level one, felt GREAT! I'm going to switch to Level 2 from now on :) I had a really busy evening, but I still squeezed the workout in right before bed!

Calories for the day- about 1120-1220 I think. Gosh its hard to tell sometimes, somebody needs to invent a food 'scanner' that could analyse any meal on the go!

Day 23

Breakfast:
A veggie burger patty (110 cals) + 1 deli flat (100 calories) + 1 banana (105 calories)+ about 100 calories of milk as creamer (couldnt take the almond milk anymore, does NOT go well with coffee!!)
= 415 calories for breakfast

Lunch:
Amy's Light and Lean pasta bowl 210 calories (A new prodcut, so excited, very awesome!)

Snack:
Chobani  Greek Yogurt- YUM! 160 calories FOURTEEN GRAMS OF PROTIEN= feeling full longer! :D

Dinner:
a bag of salad (only 40 calories!), 1 chicken scallopini and cucumber cut into the salad (100 calories), 11 seasame pretzel chips with 2 tbsp low fat sour cream (130 calories), a vitatop muffin (100 calories) + some hummus and lemon juice mixed into the salad (30 calories) = 415!

Total calories: 1200

I also had a soda today- not good!!

Workout:
Its raining which kind of limits my daily walks at work (did a little, but not enough!) and then this evening I have to go home, cram some English reading in, then get to class and be there right up until 10pm! So I guess I wont really have time, if by some mircale my overly enthusiastic teacher lets us off early

Day 22

/hihi

I've got some meal photos I need to upload later.....anyway..

Breakfast:

Nature's Path Instant Oats, 1 satchet, 210 calories (Flax flavor- actually pretty good!!)

I was late for work so I just grabbed the satchet and brought it in with me, thank god or Id have succumbed to baked goodies!!

Lunch:

I had made vegetable udon noodles with mock duck (braised gluten), tofu, half a red pepper, purple onions and brags...YUM! :D

About 300 calories (had a portion controlled amount!!)

Snack:

None- I was saving up my calories for an after dinner treat!!

Dinner:

My sweet man made me dinner, purple cabbage, sausage, and a taco...mmm...about 400 calories max?

After Dinner TREAT:

I had a buy one get one free for D'Lites Emporium, they do an ice cream that is only 50 calories a serving! I was suprised that it is made with real sugar too, not aspartame! :)

And The whole shop was super diet friendly, filled with low calorie/sugar free baked goods, baking supplies, waffle syrups and the like..AND vitatops in flavors Ive never had!! ...

but the BEST thing was the ice cream! SO smooth, creamy, yummy- and only 50 calories!!

I got the chocolate macaroon flavor and my man got mango, and we walked around in the warm evening eating ice cream, it was fun :)

Workout:
I walked for about half an hour today, but after going for a full on 2 hour grocery shop I didnt have time left in the evening to work out! The  good news is I FINALLY have a FULLLLL fridge brimming with healthy options!!

In other news- we finally booked our spring break vacation :D We are going to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where mountains meet the sea.

I've got exciting ziplining and catamaran adventures booked, soooooooo excited! And what a great way to get motivated to do well eating right/working out!! BIKINI soon /XD

Not  that I dont live in a vacation destination already! The weather in Florida is actually pretty nice...compared to the rest of the country...

Day 21

Day 21, and I've lost 6.4 pounds so far :D YAY! /XD

this is how much FAT I've lost off my body in one month!

Breakfast:
1 wholewheat deli flat + spicy hummus + 1 tex mex veggie burger patty =250 calories
coffee- 50 calories of creamer
total= 300 calories

Snack:
I had to have a mid morning snack as my office kitchen had a huge platter of DELICIOUS looking cherry and blueberry danishes with cream cheese, home made by my boss, plus muffins!!!

EVERY time I went in to the kitchen to get coffee I had to walk past them and it made me SO hungry! I started rationalizing- maybe just one would only be about 100 calories or so? But then I thought about it a bit more- white flour- sugar in the cream cheese icing- even if it was only 100 calories or so they wouldnt be FILLING calories!! Thankfully, I had a banana nut wholewheat vitatop (only 100 calories!) at work, so I heated that up and it took care of my hunger/baked goods cravings!

Lunch:
Sunnen Orangic Vegetarian Pad Thai- 280 calories- I brought a box and halved it as the whole thing was TWO servings- glad I noticed that or I might have eaten the whole thing thinking it was only 280 calories!
Snack:
1 cup blueberries, 1 cup whole strawberries, an activai peach yoghurt all mixed into a fruit salad = 200 calories. It was a pretty massive bowl!! :)
Total so far today- 880- that means I have 320 left for dinner

Dinner:
I had about 320 calories to work with, and I wanted to get rid of some lefovers, so I made a tortilla filling out of quinoa/mock duck(Soy), fresh ginger, half a red pepper and a purple onion, and filled two small corn tortillas with that (80 calories) and had a cucumber side salad- yum!

Picture coming the second I can upload it :)

Workout:
I did day 6 of Jillians 30 Day Shred! Yay :D I really didnt want to, I had a zillion other things to do, but I did it!
